About/

The Directory/ is a space in Bakklandet in Trondheim, started by TYD and Kristoffer Lo.

We met backstage. Lo is a composer and musician, Spellemann-winning, known from Highasakite and a long list of other projects. TYD is a directing duo who work internationally with brands, musicians and artists, and whose visual language reaches well past Norway.

We kept ending up in the same conversations, and when TYD started documenting Lo's band project Slowshift, it turned out we worked the same way: stubborn about the next version being better, unwilling to let time or budget decide how good a thing gets to be.

The Directory/ came out of that. TYD was looking for an office and found a room with too much soul to be only that. So it became something else. It starts as a gallery, two to four exhibitions a year.

For each exhibition we come together as one group: TYD makes the film and images, Lo makes the music for them, and every artist we show makes a short documentary about their work.

Nothing disappears when an exhibition closes. It stays here, on the site.

Where it goes next is open. Music, eventually: sessions, short concert films, the right artists invited into the room. For now it's a gallery, and the coffee is the best in Trondheim.
